OSAT (outsourced semiconductor assembly and test) is the back-end of the chip supply chain: after wafers are fabricated, these companies package and test the chips before shipment to brand customers. Malaysia — particularly Penang and Ipoh — is a major global OSAT hub. Upstream sit wafer foundries and chip designers; downstream demand comes from automotive, smartphone and industrial end markets.
