This subsector is dominated by export-oriented furniture manufacturers, many clustered around Muar in Johor, sourcing local rubberwood and other timber to make bedroom, dining and upholstered furniture on an OEM/ODM basis. Upstream they link to timber and panel suppliers; downstream their customers are overseas furniture retailers, wholesalers and e-commerce platforms, chiefly in the US. Revenues are largely US-dollar denominated, tying results to the US housing market and exchange rates.
